Accounts Manager Sarah Shepherd said she was looking forward to nodding politely as one of her colleagues told her an excruciatingly boring anecdote about how much he ate and drank over the holidays.
“It’s always really nice to catch up with people again and stare off into the middle distance while they tell me something fascinating about their nutritional intake over the holiday period and their fitness plans for the new year,” she said.
“I’ll laugh and nod, and then say something about the weather on Christmas day, before commenting about how it feels like we never left.
“At that point I can make a pre-prepared comment about the amount of unread emails waiting for us at our desks, and we can pretend the conversation never happened”.
