A local supermarket has put the call out for self checkout machines that are available to work Friday nights and weekend shifts in the lead up to Christmas.
“It’s our busiest time of year, so it’s normal for us to up-staff. We’re looking for self-starters,” John Graham, the store’s manager said.
Mr Graham said applicants would need to be able to work largely unassisted. “We’ll have experienced staff on hand to walk over and help out about every 70 seconds. But other than that, you’ll need to be able to work on your own,” he said.
He said being adaptable to different circumstances was important for the role. “We’ll ask applicants to tell us about a time when they had to deal with unforeseen circumstances – like an unexpected item in the bagging area – that type of thing. They’ll also need to be able to handle very specific verbal abuse”.
